An Israeli citizen living in the Netherlands was killed in an armed robbery at his apartment last week.
Yuval Felix, 61, was handcuffed, beaten and murdered by the suspects, according to local media reports published on Tuesday. There were no witnesses to the crime in Utrecht, just outside of Amsterdam. His body was found lifeless in the apartment last Thursday.
The Foreign Ministry said it is aware of the incident, is in touch with his family and helping transfer Felix’s body back to Israel for burial.
Local reports cited by the Walla news site said that two suspects were arrested and that police believe after interrogating them that they may be connected to a string of robberies at a restaurant and a local shopping center.
“Everyone here is shocked,” Utrecht Chabad Rabbi Aryeh Heinz told Walla. Heinz was the one who informed Felix’s family of the news after receiving a call from the victim’s friend.

“He was a sensitive person, and I knew him for many years,” Heinz continued. “In recent years he would come to us at the Chabad house and the synagogue and [everyone] loved him very much.”
The rabbi said Felix’s body would be transferred to Israel in the coming days.
Help us report truthfully on social media
As a multimedia journalist, my job is to take the quality, fact-based journalism produced by The Times of Israel newsroom and make it accessible across every platform — from Instagram posts to podcasts to short-form videos.
This is how many, especially young people, consume news these days. But misinformation is rampant on social media. Our team at ToI produces accurate, responsible short-form reporting on Israel and the Jewish world.
If you believe in the importance of factual social media journalism, please consider joining our reader support group, The Times of Israel Community. Your financial support is essential to sustain responsible multimedia reporting.
