Israeli pilot killed in helicopter crash in New Jersey
Police say there were no other victims from the crash in South Brunswick; efforts being made to return pilot’s body to Israel
An Israeli pilot was killed on Thursday in a helicopter crash in South Brunswick, New Jersey, CBS New York reported.
According to the report, officials arrived at the scene after receiving calls at around 3:30 p.m. from witnesses who saw the helicopter lose control and then fall into the Delaware and Raritan Canal, next to Carnegie Lake.
“The tail was sticking out of the water, but the cab was underwater, and they were able to rock it backward and lift it up a little bit to gain access to the pilot. They were able to disentangle him and free him and bring him up onto shore, and unfortunately, his injuries were so severe that he did not survive the crash,” South Brunswick Police Lt. Gene Rickle told CBS.
Police say there were no other victims from the crash.
The cause of the crash is not clear at this point, although police told CBS that while the helicopter was losing control, there may have been pieces breaking loose.
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board will open an investigation.
