Israeli planes struck the Gaza Strip early Wednesday, hours after a mortar was fired from Gaza into Israel.

According to the IDF Spokesman’s Office news, Israeli jets flew two sorties attacking weapons deposits, one near the town of Sudaniya and the other in the southern city of Rafah.

According to Palestinian sources two people were wounded in the attacks. The sources reported that the target near Sudaniya was a Hamas Coast Guard base and the Rafah target was a chicken coop that may have hidden the exit point for underground tunnels crossing the Egyptian border.

“The IDF will not tolerate attempts to harm its citizens or soldiers and will continue to take action against all those who seek to use terror against the state of Israel, the Hamas terror organization bears responsibility,” read a statement by the military.

Earlier Tuesday, a mortar landed in the Eshkol region south of Gaza, setting a field on fire.

Israeli planes have run nearly nightly sorties against targets in Gaza since Friday, when an Israeli soldier was killed in a gunbattle with a Gazan who snuck into Israel. The Palestinian infiltrator was also killed.

Gazans have sporadically fired rockets into Israel since then, though hostilities have remained at a low simmer.

Gaza and Israel have maintained a shaky truce since March, when a cease fire ended several days of fighting.
