Israeli woman dies in Peru rafting accident
22-year-old resident of Jerusalem reportedly unable to surface after her raft capsizes
An Israeli woman drowned on Wednesday in a rafting accident near Cusco in Peru. The woman, a 22-year-old resident of Jerusalem, reportedly became wedged under a tree trunk when her raft capsized, throwing her and five others into the water.
Due to the remote location, the woman’s friends had to ride with her body in the raft for five hours before she could be taken to a hospital in Cusco.
The Israeli consul in Peru, Tamir Cohen, was alerted to the accident and was involved in efforts to return the body to Israel.
