17-year-old missing since deadly bleacher collapse at Givat Ze’ev synagogue

Shmulik Bornstein, a 17-year-old from the Beitar Illit settlement, has been missing since the deadly collapse of a bleacher during Shavuot celebrations at a synagogue in Givat Ze’ev last night.

Bornstein’s family has been unsuccessfully trying to reach him, according to Channel 12 news, and he was not at a hospital or the state forensic institute.

The network says Bornstein’s family okayed the publication of his name and photo despite Sukkot, when observant Jews refrain from using electronics and other activities prohibited on Jewish holidays.

Two people were killed in the incident and over 150 injured at the synagogue, which is still under construction and hasn’t been approved for use, according to police and the Givat Ze’ev municipality.
