AG rules against demolishing homes of mentally ill terrorists
Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit rules against the demolition of the homes of terrorists who cannot be held responsible for their actions due to psychological disorders.
The decision comes in a letter responding to a query from Defense Minister Avidgor Liberman who had railed against an IDF and Justice Ministry decision last month to not destroy the home of a terrorist who stabbed to death an Israeli man in the Old City of Jerusalem after the stabber’s family showed he had a history of mental issues.
“That person doesn’t have the ability to consider in a rational way the realistic possibility that the home he is living in might be destroyed, and as a result of that refrain from carrying out the terror act that is sought to be deterred,” Mandelblit says.
