British Parliament to mark Balfour Declaration’s 100th

A ceremony is to be held in the British Parliament tonight to mark the 100th anniversary of the Balfour Declaration, Israel Radio reports.

The ceremony is expected to be attended by several British lawmakers and Israel’s ambassador to London, Mark Regev, the radio says.

This is one of several events planned for the year ahead to mark the centenary the declaration issued by foreign secretary Lord Arthur Balfour in 1917.

In September, UK Prime Minister Theresa May highlighted the fact that the UK and Israel will soon mark the 100-year anniversary of the “UK’s support for the establishment of a national home for the Jewish people,” in the signing of the declaration.
