Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton addresses the Saban Forum.
She speaks about the California terror attack, and says “the threat is real, the need for action is urgent.”
She says jihadism is “fueled by the Internet” and Americans have to move from “fear to resolve,” and will.
The US must combat the jihadists on social media, she adds.
“It’s time for an urgent dialogue between the government” — and not just the US government — and the “hi-tech community, to confront this problem together.”
Congress must act so that no one “who is a suspected terrorist can buy guns anywhere in America,” she says to applause.
Clinton adds that “Islam, itself, is not our adversary,” and that “it is not a clash of civilizations. The vast majority of Muslims are our on side, unless we drive them away.”
Declaring war on Islam “plays right into the hands of terrorists,” she says.
Help us report truthfully on social media
As a multimedia journalist, my job is to take the quality, fact-based journalism produced by The Times of Israel newsroom and make it accessible across every platform — from Instagram posts to podcasts to short-form videos.
This is how many, especially young people, consume news these days. But misinformation is rampant on social media. Our team at ToI produces accurate, responsible short-form reporting on Israel and the Jewish world.
If you believe in the importance of factual social media journalism, please consider joining our reader support group, The Times of Israel Community. Your financial support is essential to sustain responsible multimedia reporting.
