Religious Zionism leader Bezalel Smotrich slams opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu for releasing a statement congratulating Linoy Ashram on her Olympic gold medal win during Shabbat.

“I’m happy about Linoy’s gold, sad about the desecration of Shabbat. I’m happy that the prime minister and president waited with the congratulations until the end of Shabbat, sad that Netanyahu put out a statement in the middle of Shabbat,” he tweets.

Smotrich, whose far-right party is allied with the former premier’s Likud, adds, “It’s sad there are those here who take advantage of medals to laugh at Shabbat and those who observe it.”
