The coalition’s decision to exclude High Court president Isaac Amit from this evening’s special Knesset session and the resultant boycott of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech prove that Israel’s political blocs must stop fighting and “establish a broad, Zionist government,” Benny Gantz’s Blue and White party says in a statement.
“Today, we witnessed a shameful event for the State of Israel, and the ultimate responsibility lies with Knesset Speaker [Amir Ohana], who prefers the Likud primaries over Israel’s diplomatic relations with one of the world’s great powers,” says the party, adding that “Gantz approached Ohana as early as a week ago and asked him to prevent this.”
Blue and White says that it “succeeded in ensuring that the rest of the opposition would attend” Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech itself, “and at the very least, we avoided that particular embarrassment.
“This shameful event is further proof that the time has come to stop the ‘bloc war’ and establish a broad, Zionist government that will restore the Israeli public’s trust in state institutions and put the needs of the country before political interests,” Blue and White insists.
