Herzog phones Pope Francis to wish him a Merry Christmas

President Isaac Herzog phoned Pope Francis today to wish him a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year on behalf of Israelis, his office says.
“The president underscored that Israel is fully committed to the protection of the wellbeing and status of Christian churches and communities in the Holy Land and the Middle East,” a statement sent out by Herzog’s spokesman says.
“He told the pope about his recent visit to the Church of the Annunciation in Nazareth and added that Israel embraces its Christian minority and is committed to freedom of worship.”
