Starting today, the Home Front Command will begin issuing advance warnings for rocket and missile fire from Hezbollah in Lebanon, when operational conditions allow, in an effort to give civilians additional time to prepare before sirens sound.
The system will not apply to drone attacks, which have surged in northern border communities in recent days.
According to the military, the warnings will be sent through the Home Front Command app, the National Emergency Portal and official Telegram channels.
The IDF says the warning time will vary by location, ranging from several seconds in communities near the Lebanese border, to one minute in northern Israel and up to around two minutes in other parts of the country.
The military notes there may still be cases in which sirens sound without advance warning, as well as instances in which a warning is issued but no siren is ultimately activated.
