The Israeli army announces that residents of and visitors to southern Israel can expect to see increased troop movements in the areas around the city of Beersheba and town of Ofakim in light of a large exercise taking place there this week.
Soldiers and military vehicles will be moving through the area as the army simulates a war in the Gaza Strip, amid peak tensions with the Hamas terror group, which rules the Palestinian enclave.
As a part of the exercise, sirens are scheduled to go off in the military’s Tze’elim training base at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, the army says.
In the case of an actual incoming rocket attack, the alarm system will sound twice.
The military stresses that these exercises were planned in advance as part of the annual training schedule.
The exercises are due to wrap up toward the end of the week.
