Israel’s 74th Independence Day celebrations set to start at 7:45 p.m.

Israel will transition from Memorial Day to Independence Day in less than an hour, with the annual torch-lighting ceremony at Mount Herzl in Jerusalem opening the nationwide celebrations of its 74th year.

The event will feature the traditional musical and dance performances as well as speeches by torch-lighters chosen to represent the best of the country.

This year, in a first, the ceremony will not end with a fireworks show, in a nod to sufferers of post-traumatic stress disorder, many of whom are unnerved by the sounds of explosions in the sky.
