ABU DHABI — Foreign Minister Yair Lapid arrives in the United Arab Emirates on the first official visit by an Israeli minister after the two nations signed a normalization deal last year.
He is greeted on the tarmac by UAE Minister of State Ahmed Al Sayegh before they head into the terminal to escape the scorching heat.
Israeli ministers have made visits to the UAE in the past, but Lapid is the first to make the trip since the signing of the Abraham Accords, an honor that former prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly coveted for himself.
Lapid earlier tweeted a picture of himself from the plane, captioned: “Taking off for a historic visit to the UAE.”
