Likud court rejects petition to expel MK over her opposition to Shabbat bill

Likud’s top court rejects a petition to eject MK Sharren Haskel from the party over her opposition to a bill preventing businesses from opening on Shabbat.

Likud judge Avika Nof says the court doesn’t have the authority to remove Haskel from the party.

“They placed Sharren in front of a firing squad,” Haaretz quotes him as saying.

The petition to expel the freshman lawmaker from Likud was submitted by coalition chairman David Amsalem, whose lawyer could be heard telling Haskel to “grow up” during the hearing in a recording published by Hadashot TV news.

Likud MK Sharren Haskel arrives for a hearing at the party’s top internal court in Tel Aviv on January 8, 2018. (Flash90)
