Local Iraqis say IS leader not killed in airstrike

Islamic State chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is not dead following an Iraqi army airstrike that targeted his convoy, according to local hospital officials and eyewitnesses, Reuters reports.

Iraq’s security services issued a joint statement earlier today claiming to have struck the jihadi leader’s convoy near the border with Syria, but would not say definitively whether the IS founder and leader was hurt.

There is as yet no confirmation of Baghdadi’s health, good or bad, from either IS or Iraqi authorities.
