Navy conducts large-scale drill in Mediterranean and Red Sea

The Israeli Navy says it conducted a large-scale military drill this week, involving fleets of warships, submarines, and border security.

The maritime drill, in both the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea, stems from “lessons from the fighting over the past three years,” the Navy says.

Hundreds of sailors aboard the Navy’s missile boats, corvettes, submarines, and patrol boats participated in the drill, according to the IDF.

Scenarios practiced as part of the drill in the Mediterranean included “maritime infiltration, multi-front combat, aerial threats, the use of firepower, and the defense of strategic assets, including gas rigs, Israeli ports, and national infrastructure,” the military says.

In the Red Sea, other scenarios were simulated by the sailors in cooperation with the Navy’s Operations Division, “to strengthen command capabilities, synchronization, and cooperation between the units,” the Navy adds.
