Negev nature reserve to close for a year after acid waste spill
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleThe Israel Nature and Parks Authority says Nahal Ashalim will be closed to visitors for a year after a leak at a nearby fertilizer factory poured 100,000 cubic meters of acid waste through the Negev nature reserve on Friday.
The Authority warns the cleanup and rehabilitation of the wadi in the Negev Desert will take years and cost tens of millions of shekels.
Earlier today, the Environmental Protection Ministry said it was considering opening a criminal investigation against Rotem Fertilizer over the spill.
