Netanyahu says Golan will remain Israeli ‘forever’
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says that Israel will “forever” retain control of the Golan Heights, warning that any withdrawal from the strategic plateau it captured from Syria in 1967 would bring Islamist extremists to the country’s doorstep.
“The Golan Heights will forever remain under Israeli sovereignty,” he says at a conference of Israeli youth held in the northern city of Katzrin. “We will never leave the Golan Heights. It’s ours.”
“If we are not here, radical Islam will be, and we all understand the consequences,” Netanyahu adds.
