Opposition politicians are seizing upon a report that found emigration from Israel remained at record-high levels in 2025, pointing to it as a failing of the current government.
Gilad Kariv, a senior Democrats lawmaker who headed the Knesset committee that dealt with immigration and Diaspora affairs, says he and colleagues repeatedly urged the government to appoint officials to deal with the problem of Israelis leaving in record numbers, and to draw up a comprehensive plan to reverse the trend, but got nowhere.
“This is a strategic threat to Israel’s future, and it is closely connected to the behavior of the government,” he charges on X.
Yesh Atid MK Meirav Cohen quips that “for all they promised that Gazans would emigrate willfully, in the end the October 7 government encouraged willful emigration from Israel.”
“Every day, more and more Israelis are seeing the massive failures and perilous corruption of this government and despair,” adds Yesh Atid MK Karine Elharrar.
Help us report truthfully on social media
As a multimedia journalist, my job is to take the quality, fact-based journalism produced by The Times of Israel newsroom and make it accessible across every platform — from Instagram posts to podcasts to short-form videos.
This is how many, especially young people, consume news these days. But misinformation is rampant on social media. Our team at ToI produces accurate, responsible short-form reporting on Israel and the Jewish world.
If you believe in the importance of factual social media journalism, please consider joining our reader support group, The Times of Israel Community. Your financial support is essential to sustain responsible multimedia reporting.
