Palestinian, Vatican flags fly outside UN before Netanyahu speech

UNITED NATIONS — Hours before Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s upcoming speech to the General Assembly, the Palestinian flag has now been hoisted alongside the flags of the Vatican (the world’s other non-member state at the UN) and the body’s 193 member states outside the iconic building near New York’s East River.

Yesterday, the Palestinian flag was raised for the first time in a well-attended ceremony in the UN’s Rose Garden. Hours after the ceremony concluded, however, the flag was no longer flying at the UN, neither on the post in the Rose Garden nor outside the UN building.
