Party chiefs huddle in bid to finalize government

The leaders of the Yamina, Yesh Atid, Yisrael Beytenu and New Hope parties are meeting now at Kfar Maccabiah in Ramat Gan in a bid to hammer out a final agreement to form a government that will replace Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as premier.

Joining the party chiefs is Yamina No. 2 Ayelet Shaked, whose reported insistence on receiving a spot on the Judicial Selections Committee reserved for Labor leader Merav Michaeli is seen a key hurdle to overcome before a coalition can be finalized.

Expectations are that Yesh Atid chief Yair Lapid, who is currently tasked with forming a government, will declare he is able to assemble a coalition at some point today.
