An attempt to smuggle 10 handguns from Jordan into the West Bank overnight was foiled by the police and army, with two Palestinian suspects arrested.

In a statement, the Israel Police says its officers and IDF troops were dispatched to the Gesher Adam (Damia Bridge) area, after security forces identified suspicious activity indicating a smuggling attempt.

During their scans, two Palestinians from Jericho in their 20s were detained by the forces. They led the forces to a bag they had planted that contained 10 handguns, police say.

The pair were taken for further questioning, police add.
