President Rivlin backs anti-corruption protests

President Reuven Rivlin is praising the anti-corruption protests even as Prime Minister Netanyahu called them an attempt to bring down his government.

Rivlin, speaking at a conference, says that online social involvement is not a substitute for real engagement in society, pointing to the recent wave of protests. “There is no replacement for the city squares.”

“We have to raise a generation that remembers that real democracy can maybe begin on the social networks but can never replace the real need to take part in real debate and social activities,” he says.
