Rabbi who tricked women into believing he was secular and single given 20 months in prison

The Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court sentences Rabbi Yosef Paryzer to 20 months in prison following his conviction in January 2025 on 12 counts of defrauding women, as well as on charges of providing false information via computer.

Between 2016 and 2023, Paryzer, an American citizen who is married with children, used a fake identity to meet women on dating sites and have sexual relations with them under false pretenses.

He used the alias “Jack Segal” on dating sites, posed as a secular, single man, and gave false details about his life to the victims, with whom he engaged in concurrent, months-long relationships. According to the conviction, he falsely told the women that his relationship with them was serious and exclusive in order to get them to give him intimate pictures and videos of themselves and to have sex with them.

He pleaded guilty to defrauding 12 women in this manner on the day that the women were set to begin testifying.

In handing down the sentence, Judge Amir Shaked says he issued a more lenient sentence because Paryzer pleaded guilty, sparing many of the complainants from testifying in court, and because he entered a rehabilitation program after being exposed.

Paryzer is also ordered to pay between NIS 5,000 (nearly $1,600) and NIS 15,000 (nearly $4,800) to each of his victims.
