Rubio headed to Qatar after Israel — report

US Secretary of State will visit Qatar Tuesday, The Washington Post reports, citing two American sources.

Rubio is in Israel, where he is discussing US displeasure over Jerusalem’s strike on a Hamas compound in Doha, while Qatar is hosting top officials from across the Arab and Muslim world to formulate a joint response.

US ambassador to Turkey and special envoy for Syria Thomas Barrack is also in Qatar today, the Post reports.

Rubio, who is delivering a statement to the press alongside Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, met with the premier one-on-one for about an hour and a half before starting an expanded meeting with aides, according to a US official.

Rubio had said he would speak to Netanyahu about Israeli military plans to seize Gaza City, the largest urban center in the devastated territory, as well as the government’s talk of annexing parts of the occupied West Bank in hopes of precluding a Palestinian state.

Rubio earlier said Trump wants the Gaza war to be “finished with” — which would mean the release of hostages and ensuring Hamas is “no longer a threat.”
