Army in ‘race against time’ to get captured soldier back

Omer Bar-Lev, the Labor MK who was the commander of Israel’s most elite commando unit, Sayeret Matkal, says the IDF is presumably now deployed deep inside Rafah, searching for the kidnapped soldier, moving house to house if necessary. The IDF “has to physically close off the area.”

The Givati soldier was kidnapped around 9:30 a.m. near Rafah when his unit was attacked, including by a suicide bomber and by gunmen who emerged from a tunnel.

The terrorists will have tried to get the soldier out of the area via tunnels. “It’s a race against time… by the ground forces, to close off the area, and search house by house.”
