Spokesman for PA’s Abbas says IDF operation in Jenin is a ‘war crime’
A spokesperson for Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas describes the Israel Defense Forces operation in the West Bank city of Jenin as a “war crime.”
“What the Israeli occupation government is doing in the city of Jenin and its camp is a new war crime against our defenseless people,” says Nabil Abu Rudeineh, according to the PA’s official Wafa news service.
He says the Palestinian people “will remain steadfast on their land in the face of this brutal aggression until the occupation is defeated and freedom is achieved.”
“All these crimes committed by the occupation government and its terrorist settlers will not achieve security and stability for them unless our Palestinian people also feel them,” Abu Rudeineh says.
He calls on the international community “to break its shameful silence and take serious action to compel Israel to stop its aggression against our Palestinian people, and to hold it accountable for all these crimes.”
The Israeli military launched the campaign amid high tensions following a series of deadly terror attacks carried out by Palestinians from the Jenin area.
At least five Palestinians have been killed in the hours since the Israeli military launched its operation in the West Bank city.
