Three-quarters of Azaria’s legal team resigns after appeal

Three of the four lawyers representing Elor Azaria, the Israeli soldier sentenced to 18 months in prison for shooting dead a wounded Palestinian assailant, announce they will be resigning from the case after it was decided to appeal against his manslaughter conviction and jail term.

Chief defense attorney Yoram Sheftel filed the appeal to the military court earlier today.

In a statement, the resigning lawyers said they believed avenues other than an appeal would be preferable to Azaria.
