The Knesset plenum approves the formation of a Constitution, Law and Justice Committee with 60 MKs supporting the motion and 52 opposing.

The new committee head is Labor MK Gilad Kariv, which has drawn intense criticism from ultra-Orthodox lawmakers over the fact that he is a Reform rabbi.

Haredi leaders have said they will boycott the new committee and will not send representatives to it.

“We can’t be part of such an injustice,” says United Torah Judaism’s Uri Maklev. “The intended chairman represents the Reform movement, which is trying to destroy the Jewish people with malicious intent.”
