The UN’s Mideast envoy Tor Wennesland says he has been in contact with Israeli and Palestinian leaders to deescalate the situation in Jenin and “ensure humanitarian access and delivery of necessary medical and other supplies” into the northern West Bank where the IDF is conducting a broad counter-terror raid.
Wennesland tweets that the escalation is “very dangerous” and says “all must ensure the civilian population is protected.”
Lynn Hastings, the UN humanitarian coordinator in the Palestinian areas, says on Twitter that she was “alarmed by scale of Israeli forces operation,” noting the airstrikes in a densely populated refugee camp. She says the UN is mobilizing humanitarian aid.
