UN peacekeeping force says shell hit base in south Lebanon

BEIRUT — A shell hit the headquarters of the UN peacekeeping mission in south Lebanon today, its spokesman says, the second such incident since war erupted between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.

“A shell hit inside the base” in Naqura, says Andrea Tenenti, spokesperson for the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon. He reports “no injuries but some damage,” adding that UNIFIL is seeking to verify who fired the shell.

A Lebanese military source, on condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to speak to the media, says that “an Israeli shell penetrated the cement wall” around the UNIFIL headquarters.
