Qatar foreign ministry spokesperson Majed al-Ansari confirms that Qatari and Pakistani mediators have concluded separate meetings with US and Iranian negotiators in Doha.
“Positive progress [was] made on issues related to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, building on the outcomes of the Lake Lucerne Summit,” Ansari tweets, referring to the MOU inked last month and a subsequent summit held by negotiators in Switzerland.
“The parties agreed to continue discussions over the coming period, with the next meeting to be scheduled at the earliest possible time, following the funeral processions of the former Iranian supreme leader,” the Qatari spokesperson adds.
Funeral ceremonies for Ali Khamenei, who was killed in an Israeli strike on the opening day of the recent Iran war, are set to begin on Saturday and last for several days, concluding with an official burial at his hometown of Mashhad on July 9.
