While an in-person signing ceremony is apparently set for Friday in Switzerland, US Vice President JD Vance says the MOU between the US and Iran was signed “digitally” yesterday.
“We already signed the deal digitally yesterday,” Vance says during an interview with ABC’s “Good Morning America.”
Vance and President Donald Trump digitally signed the MOU on Sunday, a senior US official says during a subsequent phone briefing.

Iran Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf signed on behalf of Tehran, the US official says.
The US official is asked why Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei isn’t the one to sign the agreement on behalf of Tehran.
The official says that the supreme leader doesn’t typically sign such agreements and that Khamenei’s father Ali didn’t sign the 2015 nuclear deal with the US.
“Our consistent understanding is that Speaker Ghalibaf is the person with the most influence in their system, and certainly who is given sanction by both the supreme leader, but also National Security Council, to sign this and negotiate the deal on behalf of Iran,” the US official says.
