Ilana Barta, who immigrated today from Teaneck, New Jersey, is set to be married in a month. While she is going about preparations for the wedding, and getting accustomed to Israel, her fiance Akiva, an officer in the IDF paratroopers, is fighting in the Gaza Strip.
When she climbed on to the plane to bring her to Israel, wedding dress in hand, she had not heard from her fiance in a week.

Ilana plans on studying medicine at the Technion in Haifa in October. In interviews with Israeli media, Ilana made clear she was not only moving to Israel for Akiva, but also because of a deep love of Israel and the Jewish people.
The two met as counselors at a Bnei Akiva camp in the United States.
