Yachimovich says Rivlin should consider pardoning Azaria

Zionist Union MK Shelly Yachimovich is the sole opposition lawmaker thus far to call for a pardon for Azaria.

She says in a statement that the courts acted “professionally and bravely” in convicting the soldier for manslaughter.

But she adds that the verdict will cause a social divide in Israel and says the president should therefore consider pardoning him.

“Azaria’s narrow shoulders will not be able to withstand the weight of the divide,” she says.
