MTV seeks next sounds, face of Israel
Local station launches search for fresh teen band, and Israel correspondent
It’s the battle of the bands, Israel style. The local MTV affiliate is inviting teens and young adults, ages 15 to 22, to try out for The Breeze or Briza Festival, an annual end-of-August Ashkelon musical extravaganza hosting a dozen well-known Israeli singers and bands.
“When we’re done with this competition, we’ll have found the next band that will conquer Israel,” said spokesman Roi Berger.
According to Berger, there are still plenty of spots available for interested bands.
Eight bands will be chosen to perform and then judged by the audience and a panel of music critics. The winning band will win musical instruments and equipment.
MTV Israel also hopes to find the next local correspondent in an online, open competition on the MTV Israel website, calling for people to put their photos up on the MTV Israel Facebook page, with the judges choosing from among those who get the most “likes.”
At the Ashkelon festival, which is partnering with MTV this year, performers include Shlomo Artzi, Amir Benayoun, Eyal Golan, Riff Cohen, Dikla, Mercedes Band, members of The Voice, and several others, with former MTV Israel presenter Jason Danino-Holt acting as MC.
Bands interested in trying out need to send their names, ages, clips and pictures to MUSIC@mtv.co.il for the August 19-23 event.
