Davis Cup tie hinges on final match

Japan and Israel level at 2-2 in battle to advance toward World Group

Israeli tennis player Dudi Sela lost to Japan’s Kei Nishikori on Sunday in a Davis Cup match that stretched for over four hours.

Nishikori won 6:3, 3:6, 4:6, 6:4, 7:5, coming back from 2 sets to 1 down.

The win brought Japan and Israel to two victories each as they battle toward a place in the World Group of the competition.

Israel’s Amir Weintraub was scheduled to play Japan’s Go Soeda later on Sunday in the deciding match.

The accomplished Israeli tennis team of Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram won their doubles match on Saturday to give Israel a 2-1 lead over Japan in the World Group Play-off round.

The Israelis beat Ito and Yuichi Sugita in three sets, with a final score of 5-7, 6-3, 6-1.
