A senior official at the Ministry of Construction and Housing was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of involvement in bribery, breach of trust and money laundering, Hebrew media reported.
The official, who worked in the the central region department, was arrested following recent developments in a probe conducted at the police anti-fraud unit Lahav 433. A covert investigation was launched several months ago, and became public two weeks ago when several suspects were taken into custody and interrogated.
The official, who was not named, was interrogated by the police investigators. Police said that if needed, he will be brought before the Rishon Lezion Magistrate Court to extend his detention.
Police said in a statement that they “will continue investigating and exposing improper procedures involving conflicts of interest, and will continue to seek and arrive at any place where there is suspected public corruption, which harms government order and the general public.”
