Smuggled cocaine nabbed at Ben Gurion airport

Woman from Costa Rica arrested with over 1 kilogram of the drug hidden inside laptop computer bag

Police arrested a woman who attempted to smuggle cocaine into Israel on a flight from Costa Rica last month, police said Thursday.

Cops stopped the Costa Rican citizen and searched her, acting on an intelligence tip-off.

They discovered that her laptop computer bag was hollowed out and contained almost 1.2 kilograms of cocaine with an Israeli street value of about NIS 300.000 ($80,000).

The 26-year-old woman was detained at Ben Gurion Airport and on February 26 was indicted by the Central District Prosecutor’s Office for drug smuggling.

According to police, the woman flew from Costa Rica to Israel via France on February 17.
