IDF soldiers on Sunday shot and injured a Palestinian man who attempted to enter Israel illegally from the West Bank.
The man, who has not been identified, was spotted by an army patrol crossing into Israel from the Palestinian village of Zawiya near the central Israeli town of Rosh Ha’ayin on Sunday evening. The soldiers gave chase, calling on the man to stop.
When the man refused to stop, soldiers opened fire, hitting him in the hand and stomach.
He was treated by army medics at the scene and evacuated in moderate condition to Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva.
Sources familiar with the incident said the man was apparently not intending to carry out an attack against Israelis, but was likely attempting to smuggle into Israel to work without a relevant permit.
