On January 30, 2025, Agam Berger, 20, was released from Hamas captivity in Gaza as part of phase one of a mediated ceasefire-hostage release deal. She was handed over to the Red Cross, who delivered her to IDF soldiers who escorted her into Israel. Below is what we initially knew of her capture:
Private Agam ‘Gigi’ Berger, then 19, was taken captive by Hamas terrorists on October 7, 2023, from the IDF surveillance unit at the Nahal Oz army base.
She only had time that morning to call her father, Shlomi, and tell him she was under fire.
Berger was later identified in a Hamas Telegram video, in which she is seen being led to a car, still dressed in her pajamas.
Berger is known as a talented violinist who’s been playing since the fourth grade.
She has a twin sister, Li-Yam and another younger sister and brother, Bar and Ilai and the family lives in Holon.
Agam graduated from the Kiryat Sharet school in Holon, which saw 10 of its graduates killed on October 7, 2023.
