A United Airlines flight from New York to Tel Aviv was diverted Saturday morning after a small private drone entered its path as it came in for landing.

Officials in the Israel Airports Authority said the drone had been deemed a potential danger to the flight, leading to the decision to divert it.

Police were investigating who operated the drone in forbidden airspace near Ben Gurion Airport.

Similar incidents involving drones have occurred in the past from time to time, leading to planes being grounded on some occasions.

Once an expensive and complicated device, small multi-rotor drones have become ubiquitous in recent years.
