Peace Now director Yariv Oppenheimer announced Friday he was stepping down from his position.

Oppenheimer, 39, has served as the left-wing group’s secretary-general and spokesman since 2002.

As leader of the peace-promoting organization, Oppenheimer has campaigned for the establishment of a Palestinian state, an end to the occupation of Palestinian territories and a stop to Israeli settlement activity.

Peace Now was originally established in 1978 as a group promoting the signing of a peace accord between Israel and Egypt. In recent years it has focused it activities on pushing for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
