A 10-year-old boy drowned on Sunday off the coast of Atlit, south of Haifa. The boy entered the water with a friend, and his parents notified the police after their son did not come out of the water.
Israeli Navy ships located the boy, pulled him out of the water unconscious, and brought him to a nearby military port, but Magen David Adom paramedics could not resuscitate him.
Sunday’s incident was the third case in the past week when a child drowned or nearly drowned at an Israeli beach. Earlier on Sunday a 4-year-old boy died a day after nearly drowning in the Sea of Galilee. Last Wednesday, an 18-month-old fell into shallow water at the Sea of Galilee and was rushed to the hospital in serious condition.
