For Jews who think President Obama’s a keeper, there’s now a new kippa.
A Jewish Democrat with a (yarmulke-wearing) head for business has just announced the return of the “Obamulke,” a way for observant Jews to show support for the president’s re-election campaign. The traditional head covering can be ordered online, and is also available at J. Levine Books & Judaica in New York City.
“As a Jewish American who’s also a vocal supporter of President Obama, I see the Obamulke yarmulke as a unique conversation starter,” writes the item’s creator, Matthew Walters, in promotional materials for the new product.
The Obamulke, which comes in red, white and blue and is made in the US, is an update of a version Walters created for the 2008 campaign. Walters says he personally presented an Obamulke to the then candidate during an appearance Obama made at the Apollo Theater in Harlem. He notes that the kippa “is not authorized by any candidate or political committee.”
