Popular American-Jewish comedian and “The Daily Show” host Jon Stewart, who was called out for his July 14 commentary on the current conflict between Hamas and Israel, satirically responded to critics Monday night.

At each point in which Stewart said the word “Israel,” “Daily Show” correspondents popped out from under his desk and began berating him, news blog Mediaite reported.

One went as far as calling Stewart “Self-hating Jew!” which according to Mediaite blogger Josh Feldman is a criticism frequently employed by Stewart’sopponents.

Among the critics of Stewart’s performance was Times of Israel editor David Horovitz, who wrote July 16 that the comedian was “deliberately skewing the point to get those laughs.”
