A pair of teenagers in Morocco, aged 14 and 15, were arrested by authorities last week after a picture of them kissing was posted on Facebook, the AFP new agency reported on Saturday.
The photo in question was snapped outside the couple’s high school in the northern town of Nador by a friend, 15. The photo was uploaded to Facebook and was later picked up by a local newspaper. The photographer was also arrested.
The incident “involves a teenage boy and his girlfriend. They were arrested on Thursday for violating public decency by posting a photo of them kissing,” human rights activist Chakib al-Khayari said.
In response to the incident, local supporters staged a sit-in outside the police station and started an online campaign to post photos of people kissing, in solidarity.
The three are to appear before a juvenile court on Friday.
