Two killed as truck plows into car in central Israel

A man and a woman were killed on Tuesday morning when a truck slammed into their car along Route 444 in the Sharon region.

According to eyewitnesses, the car had passed through an intersection between the towns of Kalansua and Sha’ar Efraim when the truck, traveling very fast, hit the vehicle in a head-on collision. Initial reports indicated that the man and woman were attempting make a U-turn when they were hit.

The driver was lightly injured.

By chance, a fire and rescue team witnessed the crash, and immediately rushed to free the victims, who were trapped in their crushed car which was partially pinned under the truck.

Although they both were extracted, they succumbed to their injuries while being treated at the scene by paramedics. An inquiry was opened into the incident and the highway was temporarily closed to traffic.
